PORTLAND – The Coalition for Climate and Economic Justice, a group of nearly 50 community-based organizations from across Oregon and experts in clean energy and environmental justice, will push the state for a robust restart of Oregon’s Climate Protection Program at an official state meeting Tuesday.
On Tuesday, May 14, The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will meet to discuss the future of the CPP, after a court invalidated the policy late last year. A key focus of Tuesday’s meeting is an innovative provision of the CPP called Community Climate Investment credits.
The Community Climate Investment credits would help Oregon oil and gas companies reach their emissions targets and create nearly $150 million to help lower families’ energy bills through clean energy projects like solar and home weatherization, and reduce transportation pollution.
